Hour of the Owl

Wisdom rests in the heart of one who has understanding’

Proverbs 14:33a

The grandfather stood tall and regal in his uniform of overalls and open necked shirt.

The young boy asked,

Grandfather, how did you get to be so smart?’

Being smart is using your head. Using the brain God has given you to the best of your ability but wisdom is something else altogether.’

The boy sat on the edge of the porch steps and swatted at an aggressive mosquito. Not satisfied with the older man’s comment he pressed him further.

So what is the difference between being smart and wise?’

My journey with wisdom began a long, long time ago. She did not come in a neat package like a smart phone but crept up on me over time. I came to accept that all knowledge is in the mind of God and God’s wisdom is knowledge that leads to understanding.’

Eternal flame

The above is an edited version of an excerpt from my book Hour of the Owl: Living life with Wisdom. Over the years I too have found wisdom creeps up on us and burns within like an eternal flame.

The world desperately needs God’s wisdom today. Wisdom is the Lord Jesus Christ. We need His Word alive in us so we can make the right choices.

We also need wisdom because God says to acquire it (Proverbs 4:7).

It is the means we make our way through a hope filled life to an eternal future. It is the key to lasting joy.

Proverbs 19:8, ‘He who gets wisdom loves his own soul. He who keeps understanding will find good.’

Are you facing choices today? Some decisions to make?

Ask for wisdom (James 1:5-6).
